Jad Atoui جاد عطوي is a Beirut-based sound artist and improviser whose work spans live performance, compositions, installations and workshops. He has performed with John Zorn, Pauline Oliveros, Laurie Anderson, Chuck Bettis, Tarek Atoui and many others. During his formative years in New York, he gravitated towards the avant-garde scene while working closely with downtown musicians, learning improvised music techniques, and working at the Stone and the Guggenheim. His Biosonics project, in collaboration with scientist Ivan Marazzi, drew on the bio-sonification of behaviour as a compositional tool, and was published in John Zorn’s Arcana VIII and premiered at National Sawdust as part of a series commissioned by the Stone. He is currently working with Anthony Sahyoun on a new project.
