BINT بنت is a New York-based musician and interdisciplinary artist. Across performance, sound and visual art, she applies contemporary methods to the multicultural folk technologies of her ancestries (Pakistani, Egyptian, American). Her practice investigates the perennial role of the artist-mystic as a cultural preserver and liberation worker. She draws on a palette of dissonance, distortion, long-form drones, live sampling and noise to access corresponding emotional states in herself and listeners, and is most known for her unusual approach to processed harmonium and multilingual vocals through synthesis, pedals and cassette tape. She has shown work internationally, including commissions and collaborations with Black Sabbath, Joan La Barbara, Yale CCAM and the Arab American National Museum among others.
